Boomers are Zoomers PDF Print E-mail

The baby boomer generation is changing how the older generation travels. They no longer want to settle down at the beaches. Instead, they are now often called Zoomers because they want to travel to new places. Zoomers have either raised children or have chosen to not have any children. They are now at the point there they have made money and want to see the world. So, what can Baby Boomers do to make sure they enjoy traveling?

1) Travel with friends if traveling in a group.

Some tour and travel agencies are being careful to not offer group tours like they used to do to for senors. However, others still try to make senors go on group tours. In order to be happy with a group tour, make sure to travel with friends. That way there is not a forced feeling of being in a random group of people.

2) Research the travel before going on any trip.

Baby Boomers need to make sure that they research the travel – the travel and lodging arrangements – before booking the travel. After all, they need to know if they will be able to stay in a hotel or if they are expected to stay in tents. They also need to know of the amenities if any are provided or if they will have to be providing much of their own needs. Research has become much easier with the Internet. Use all your resources wisely.

3) Budget, budget, budget.

While it is true that many Baby Boomers have money and can easily afford many of the trips, it is still important to budget for travel. There may be unexpected expenses that arise while on a vacation. It is very important that extra money be available for these things if they arise.

4) Find the cheapest deal for the trip that is wanted.

While paying for luxury is always nice, do research into the different trips offered by different travel agencies. Then choose the cheapest deal that is still worth the trip. Obviously, do not choose a trip where you would be uncomfortable with the arrangements. However, do not simply go with the first offer that is found.

5) Look for travel agencies that offer discounts.

Always look for travel agencies that offer discounts. Some travel agencies instantly offer discounts for those who are considered senior citizens. Sometimes they are offered with proof of membership in AARP or CARP. However, if planning to go on more than one vacation, it may be good to find a travel agency that increases the discount as more trips are taken. Of course, there will probably be a cap eventually, but that discount will apply to all future trips.

6) Talk to friends who have taken trips.

Talk to friends who have traveled to places you may want to go or used travel agencies you are considering. Ask about discounts and how they were treated. Was it a good trip for them or did they not enjoy it at all? What were the reasons that they enjoyed or did not enjoy the trip? Do they know anybody who has gone on that type of trip or used the same service after they used it? Find out all about past experiences so you can decided if you think you'd like what is offered.
